Practical guidance for better digital learning decisions

Practical SkillNord notes to help you frame a useful brief, make more of existing knowledge and agree what digital delivery must prove.

Before development begins

Three useful conversations to have first

Better E-Learning starts by connecting a business need to a capability gap, a learning experience and evidence of application. The notes below make those decisions easier to discuss.

Frame the brief

Start the brief with the work, not the format

A request for a video or an interactive module is a starting idea, not yet a learning objective. First describe the situation in which a learner will use the skill and what a good decision or action looks like.

  • Who needs to do the work, and what is difficult today?
  • What should change after the learning experience?
  • How will you recognise appropriate application, not just attendance?

Shape source material

Turn source material into a learning path

Policies, SOPs, presentations and expert notes contain useful knowledge, but a file collection is not yet a programme. Identify what learners must understand, practise and retain, then place each source where it supports that sequence.

  • Separate essential decisions from reference-only detail.
  • Choose examples and checks that reflect real tasks.
  • Review accuracy, ownership and update needs before development.

Define delivery

Define LMS-ready delivery before the build

“LMS-ready” should name the destination platform, the launch behavior to verify and the completion evidence it must receive. If SCORM packaging is required, include the version and test expectations in the agreed scope rather than assuming every platform behaves the same way.

  • Confirm the platform and package requirements with its owner.
  • Agree how launch, progress and completion will be tested.
  • Keep review and quality assurance in the delivery plan.

Our learning approach

From business need to meaningful evidence

Each stage should point back to the work people need to do. Completion can show that required learning happened; impact needs its own evidence and measurement plan.

    Learning Design

The structure chosen to close that specific gap.

  4. 04

    Learning Experience

How the material is worked through, at the learner's pace.

  5. 05

    Application

The moment the skill is used in the real task.

  6. 06

    Measurement

Evidence agreed in advance, not assembled afterwards.

  7. 07

    Business Impact

The original need, revisited with something to show.
