Programme overview

What this programme covers

Import Operations treats the import desk as a control point, not an admin task, and runs as a new starter's first three months. Chapter one builds the foundation: inbound versus outbound, the terms daily work runs on (HS code, duty, demurrage versus detention, GRN), then the documents one by one, from commercial invoice and packing list to certificate of origin, bill of lading, arrival notice and customs release; Incoterms 2020 from the importer's side and total landed cost; and who does what across procurement, planning, quality, warehouse, finance and the broker. Chapter two is the daily toolkit: ERP and carrier portals, ten ready email templates, the downloadable Inbound Control Tower, forwarder management from booking to draft B/L and free time, and a weekly checklist dashboard. Chapter three covers KPIs, reporting upwards, and five real cases, from an HS code error to cargo damage at unloading. Seventeen Storyline modules; each chapter ends with a platform quiz at 65%.

Practical outcomes

What you will be able to do

  1. 01Where the import desk sits in the inbound flow: inbound against outbound, the import cycle from order to goods receipt, and who depends on you across procurement, planning, the raw material warehouse, finance, quality, production, the customs broker and the forwarder
  2. 02The vocabulary daily work runs on — HS code, ETA against ETD, arrival notice and manifest, customs clearance and release, demurrage against detention, GRN
  3. 03The import documents one by one — commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, bill of lading and air waybill, arrival notice, delivery order, customs release and insurance certificate — with the checks on each and the errors that recur
  4. 04Incoterms 2020 read from the importer's side, from EXW and FCA through FOB, CFR, CIF, CPT and CIP to DAP, DPU and DDP, where risk transfers, and the total landed cost behind a quoted price
  5. 05The daily toolkit: ERP as the system of record, carrier and customs portals, ten ready email templates, the Inbound Control Tower and a weekly checklist dashboard
  6. 06Managing the forwarder and the clock — booking inputs, pre-alert, ETA changes, bill of lading accuracy, free time and demurrage from day one — then the KPIs you are measured on and five real cases, from an HS code error to cargo damage at unloading
