Programme overview

What this programme covers

Outbound and export operations are where a company's promise to its customer becomes physical: goods leave the seller's control, cross borders, and must arrive correctly, on time and at a predictable cost. The programme opens by setting that frame — how commercial terms, documentation, customs, transport and payment interlock into one controlled flow. The next module turns an enquiry into an executable order: confirming terms, checking feasibility and compliance early, and coordinating the hand-offs that keep production, documentation and transport in step. Then Incoterms 2020 — who arranges and pays for carriage, where risk passes from seller to buyer, who handles export and import formalities — closing on the cargo insurance several terms depend on. Twelve modules over 48 hours, one 30-question final exam at 65%, and three downloads: an Export Costing Calculator, an Export Control Tower and an LC Document Checker. For practitioners with a few years' experience moving into export.

Practical outcomes

What you will be able to do

  1. 01How commercial terms, documentation, customs, transport and payment depend on one another in a single export flow, who the parties are and what each is accountable for, and the order cycle from enquiry to proof of delivery and payment
  2. 02Turning an enquiry into an executable order: the information an export order must capture before acceptance, early feasibility and compliance checks, and controlled handling of changes, partial shipments and amendments
  3. 03Incoterms 2020 — the eleven rules and the two families they fall into, where cost and risk transfer, choosing a term and avoiding the common pitfalls — closing on the marine cargo insurance several terms depend on
  4. 04The export documents and the consistency between them: a commercial invoice and packing list fit for customs and banks, transport documents and the bill of lading, certificates of origin — then the export declaration, HS classification, customs value and origin, licensable goods, and sanctions screening
  5. 05Packaging, shipping marks and ISPM 15 wood rules; the forwarder's role against the carrier's; sea, air and road compared on cost and transit; chargeable weight; and a landed cost built in the Export Costing Calculator rather than a headline freight rate
  6. 06Payment methods ranked by risk to the exporter, how a letter of credit works and the discrepancies that stop it — checked in the LC Document Checker before presentation — dangerous goods and when to escalate instead of proceeding, and export performance watched on the Export Control Tower
